  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage
  • ¾ teaspoon salt (divided)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted then cooled – divided)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. In a food processor, blend celery, onion, carrots, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper until finely chopped.
  3. Sauté the vegetable mixture in olive oil over medium heat for 10-12 minutes until tender.
  4. In a large bowl, mix bread flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and remaining salt.
  5. Whisk together buttermilk and 4 tablespoons melted butter; combine with dry ingredients.
  6. Fold in cooled vegetables gently until just combined.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for about 12 minutes; brush with remaining melted butter mixed with rosemary and bake an additional 6-8 minutes until golden brown.
